All the spray tanning in the world will do you no good if it attaches itself to dead skin that is about to come off your body, so be sure to exfoliate! Use an exfoliating sponge the night before your spray tan session to remove these dead skin cells. Exfoliating allows for a smoother application as well as helping the tan to fade evenly.

Prepare your skin:

Be sure skin is completely clean and dry.  Do not apply any lotions, oils, deodorants or perfumes prior to use.  Shaving should also be done prior to tanning. If you are unable to shower just prior to your tanning session, we have wipes you may purchase that effectively remove 99.9% of your makeup and deodorant.

What to wear during your tanning session:

Be certain to bring a dark-colored bathing suit, underwear or any garment of your preference. Our tanning solution washes out of most clothing but may stain some permanently. Attire for men is boxers, swim trunks or shorts.

What to bring to your session:

* Dark-colored bathing suit (or your garment of preference)

* Dark, loose-fitting clothing to be worn after your tanning session

* Towel for your car

* Something to keep your hair up

* Flip-flops

Bring dark, loose clothing to your appointment to wear home after your tan. Tight fitting clothing can hinder tanning results. Allow 8-24 hrs before bathing, showering, swimming or exercising, as the solution will continue to react with the skin during this time period.  Color will keep developing for up to 12 hours, or until you shower. Do not be alarmed if you experience color washing off – this is residual tanning solution and is expected to occur.

Tanning Color Development Times:

With the new technology in sunless tanning, you can have a dark, natural-looking tan within 8 to 12 hours of application. Your tan will last about 5 to 7 days or up to 10 days with the daily use of a tan extender.

After Tanning Tips

*  Avoid perspiring, and be careful when washing hands and other activities as this may cause tan to streak until first shower.

*Do not exercise immediately following your tanning session. Excessive perspiration can affect the tanning process and the end result of your tan.

*DO NOT sit directly on leather or light fabric seats and furniture after your tanning session. Sit on a towel or cloth instead.

*Shower using a body wash or shower gel. You will see the cosmetic bronzer wash off, this is normal.

*   Avoid exfoliating skin, use of Alpha Hydroxy acids and any hair removal products.

*Long baths or soaking in the pool can accelerate exfoliation and fade your tan.  When swimming use a waterproof sunscreen. The tan will still fade a little but this will slow down the process.

Caring for your tan

Hydrated skin makes your tan last longer and slows down the process of natural skin exfoliation. Moisturize twice a day with a tan extender, a lotion designed specifically to extend the life of your tan that can be purchased at most tanning salons. Retail store moisturizers are alcohol-based products that are drying to the skin and can cause tan to fade quicker and unevenly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is airbrush tanning?

Tanning occurs when the skin produces pigment to protect itself from UV rays. In airbrush tanning, the tanning solution is applied by a technician using a compressor and airbrush. Airbrush tanning solutions contain an active ingredient, Organic DHA, it is non-toxic sugar derived from sugar beets and sugar cane,which reacts with the outer layer of skin, producing a bronzing effect. It must be emphasized that the pigments resulting from an airbrush tan DO NOT provide UV protection. The maximum generation of color is reached within about 12 hours, so the color will continue to darken after the initial application. Airbrush tanning solutions also typically have a normal bronzer that provides an immediate tan effect and helps the operator to distinguish areas of the skin that are applied and unapplied. Most of this added bronzer will come off in the first shower/bath after application.

Is this safe for my skin?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) has been approved by the FDA for cosmetic applications.  It has been used for over 30 years without any harmful effects.

How brown will I get?

Everybody’s skin develops its own individual color. Some people get very brown, others get just a glow. For those people, with repeated sessions, the skin tends to get used to the solution and starts to develop more color. You only need a few sessions to achieve this.

How long does it last?

The skin type determines the length of the tan. The average duration is from 5 to 7 days or up to 10 days with the daily use of a tan extender.  Dry skin and rubbing on the skin will shorten the life of the tan. As you lose the skin layer you will lose your tan.  This comes from showers and tight clothing.  The more abrasive you are to your skin, the sooner you will lose your tan. And MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE! The application of tan extender offsets the fading produced by the normal skin renewal cycle.
